Hurricane preparedness goes beyond boarding windows and stocking up on water. Should an evacuation be necessary, many South Florida residents have not only themselves, but their furry friends to worry about as well. The Red Cross runs a shelter in Broward County available for residents with pets living in the evacuation zone or any mobile home in the county. Similarly, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties offer emergency pet shelters for residents. However, pre-registration is required. In addition to pet registration, owners must provide proof of county residence, as well as the pet's vaccination and medical records.
